Whether you just got your keys, are still house hunting, or you’ve planted roots, September is a beautiful time to explore our island.
While the rest of the world is cooling down and bundling up, Honolulu is heating up with culture, music, food, and community. From iconic festivals to weekly art markets, this month offers the perfect opportunity to connect with the island and feel right at home.
Here are some of my favorite September events in Honolulu — especially great if you're new to the area or just looking to live a little more local.
1. Aloha Festivals (All Month Long)
If you’re only going to one big local event this month, make it the Aloha Festivals. It’s Hawaiʻi’s premier cultural celebration and a beautiful way to learn about Hawaiian heritage.
Don’t miss:
Waikīkī Hoʻolauleʻa – One of the largest block parties in the state! Live music, hula, local eats, and vendors line Kalākaua Avenue (usually mid-September).
Floral Parade – A stunning procession of horseback riders, floral floats, marching bands, and hula hālau (usually late September).
📍 Location: Kalākaua Avenue, Waikīkī
🎟️ Free
2. Honolulu Intertribal Powwow
A vibrant celebration of Native American culture held at Magic Island. Expect traditional drumming, dances, storytelling, and arts and crafts. A beautiful blend of cultures right in the heart of Honolulu.
📅 Date: Early September
📍 Magic Island (Ala Moana Beach Park)
🎟️ Free and family-friendly
From the opening of the first Okinawan restaurant American Cafe in 1923 to today, there have been over 350 Okinawan-owned restaurants in Hawaii. Most of the original restaurants have closed, but there is a new generation operating today. In the spirit of Yuimaaru (communities supporting one another), support local businesses and celebrate Okinawan-owned restaurants by ordering Okinawan food, discovering new eateries, and finding new favorites dishes.
📅 Dates: through Sept 15

Up for an adventure? The Honolulu Century Ride is Hawai‘i’s largest cycling event, with options ranging from 25 to 100 miles. It’s a great way to see the island and connect with the active community.
📅 Date: Sept 28
📍 Starts at Kapiʻolani Park
🎟️ Registration required
One of the best parts of living in Hawaiʻi is how quickly the community embraces you when you show up — respectfully, curiously, and with aloha.
Attending local events is about more than just entertainment: it’s how you build connections, meet neighbors, and start feeling like this really is your home.
As a local realtor, I always tell my clients: buying the house is just one part of it — the real win is living in the community.
If you’re still in the process of finding your home in Hawaiʻi, I’d be honored to help. Whether you’re searching from across the island or across the ocean, I’ll walk you through every step with local insight, clear communication, and a whole lot of aloha.
📲 Let’s connect — and maybe I’ll see you at the next festival!
