My favorite listing in my 25+ year career

Real Estate

In my more than 25 years in real estate, few homes have left a mark on me the way 1525 Ehupua Place did. This extraordinary property wasn’t just a house. It was a living piece of art, steeped in history, creativity, and soul. From the moment I first walked through the door, I knew this was going to be a once-in-a-career kind of listing.

The home was owned by a famous composer, and the space reflected the same elegance and rhythm found in his music. To make the experience even more memorable, we played a custom playlist curated by the composer himself during showings and open houses. It was an incredibly special touch to have his music floating through the very rooms where it had likely been dreamed up and brought to life.

Architecturally, the home was a mid-century modern masterpiece, designed by the architect Sid Snyder, one of Hawaii’s most iconic architects. Snyder's timeless design, his ability to integrate indoor and outdoor living, clean lines, and open flow—were on full display in this property, and it was a true honor to represent such an important piece of architectural history.

To showcase the home’s beauty, we collaborated with Fishcake Honolulu for the staging. Their aesthetic aligned perfectly with the home’s architecture, enhancing the character without overpowering it. Modern, tasteful, and really re-imagining the space. One of my favorite rooms was the room that was transformed into a kid's room. It had a built-in "bunk bed" that was playful and imaginitive.

And the photography? It was captured by none other than Mariko Reed, whose ability to highlight the light, texture, and spirit of a space is unmatched. Her images told the story of the home with clarity and emotion, and helped us share its magic with the world.

We even had a moment of real magic during our open house: the architect himself came to visit. That was a true full-circle moment, witnessing him walk through the space he had designed decades earlier, seeing his work still cherished and alive.

The final piece that made this listing unforgettable? The buyers. From the beginning, I knew they were the perfect fit. They understood the home’s significance, appreciated its soul, and shared a reverence for its history. Seeing it pass into hands that would love and preserve it was deeply fulfilling.

To call this just a listing would be a disservice. 1525 Ehupua Place was an experience—one of artistry, music, architecture, and connection. It was a privilege to be a part of its story.
