My Favorite Halloween Activities on Oahu

community

Halloween here on island is unique: warm evenings, moonlit beaches, costumed surfers… and yes, pumpkins and haunted houses too. For me as a realtor, it’s a reminder: the value of a home here isn’t just in the bricks and mortar, it’s in the community and experiences. Manoa is one of the neighborhoods on the island that goes all‑out for Halloween: families stroll the streets, there are colorful decorations, and a community feel as we hand out candy to the keiki.

Imagine a late October evening: tree‑lined Manoa street, creative costumes, neighbors chatting in the driveways...just a short walk/drive from your home, and you’re on a decorated street in your neighborhood where families gather for trick‑or‑treating. We have prepared 1000 bags of candy to hand out to trick-or-treaters. We get to spread the joy of the holiday, talk story, and enjoy our favorite pupus together. This is the start of my favorite time of year, and once the Halloween decorations go up around my house, I look forward to everything the season brings!

Tips for those attending trick-or-treat on Lowrey Ave. in Manoa

  • Arrive earlier in the evening (before sunset or just after) especially for younger children. The crowds build as it gets darker.
  • Bring a flashlight or glow stick for each child (especially on Manoa’s narrower roads).
  • Use sidewalks and well‑lit paths. Some areas in Manoa may be less lit due to the valley terrain and tree canopy, so extra care is smart.
  • For homeowners: If you’re giving candy, make sure your outdoor lights are on and that candy is easy to reach (avoid steps or cluttered driveways). It improves the trick‑or‑treat experience and helps your own home make a positive impression.

As we sail into the spirit of Halloween, I thought I’d share some of the best ways you can enjoy the season around the Islands, whether you’re a local resident or soon‑to‑be neighbor. Buying or selling a home in HawaiÊ»i often means not just embracing the climate and the view, but living the lifestyle
